Pine Wilt

We’re Famous! (well, sort of)

Nearly six years after embarking on collaborative research with KSU’s extension pathologist and nematologist to find a cure for the deadly Pine Wilt disease, our findings were accepted and published in the September 2006 issue of the International Journal of Arboriculture and Urban Forestry.  This journal is recognized internationally as the scientific publication for the tree care industry, so our inclusion with manuscripts from other researchers is very exciting.

Pine Wilt, simply put, is a disease caused by the pine wood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, which once inside the tree can kill some species of pine in less than 30 days.  Our goal was to find a preventative cure by way of systemic injection – in which we were successful!
